Mission Statement
Our mission is to serve as a resource and voice for all parents and students;
offer ideas and share concerns with each other and the school administration;
develop and plan programs that meet the needs of parents; support the school
administrators’ and faculty's efforts in providing a safe supportive and high
quality educational environment for our children; have fun and enjoy doing all
of the above.
PTO membership is open to all WHS parents. Please join us at one of our meetings!
Meetings are approximately 60 to 90 minutes and include concerned and committed parents,
and the school principal. The principal provides an update of school events and issues,
while parents are encouraged to ask questions, share concerns and present ideas.

Accomplishments
At the beginning of each school year, the PTO meets to discuss ideas and suggestions and sets goals to
accomplish through various initiatives throughout the year. Some of the goals accomplished to date are:
* - Provided funding for custom artwork in the third floor stairwell by a local artist. Artwork enhances student
pride while beautifying the school.
* - Lobbied for the purchase and installation of the lighted school sign located on Cass Avenue.
* - Created "Parent E-Link" for parents to receive periodic e-mail messages from the Principal (return to home page
to sign up!)
* - Developed "Literature Series for Parents" - Informational booklets include "Block Scheduling", "Guidance
Department Services", "Student Activities, Student Government and Clubs," and " Student Support Services."
Booklets are available at the main desk.
* - Successfully lobbied for a process to inform parents when their child is absent.
* - Researched and developed "Novan News" parent newsletter.
* - Instrumental in obtaining crosswalk signs for Cass Avenue to enhance student safety.
* - Successfully lobbied for the posting of department chair e-mail addresses on the school's website.
* - Created "Parent Information Center" located near the main entrance.
* - Developed an annual series of educational programs and workshops for parents.
* - Developed a plan and proposed to the School Improvement Team a professional development program to be held
annually for all faculty on the topic: "Strategies to Enhance Teacher Communication Skill With Parents and
Improve Parent Involvement and Engagement."
