| *NOTE: 1890s was called the "Mauve decade" because of William Henry Perkin's aniline eye allowed the widespread of the mauve colour (a pale shade of purple) in fashion. It was also known as the "gay ninties" under the then-current usage of the word "gay" which referred simply to merriment and frivolity, with no connotation of homosexuality as in present-day usage. |
