Decade: 1980
"Gilded Age"
or
"Mauve Decade"
*NOTE: The Gilded Age encompasses the years from the 1870s to 1900. Scholars tend to see the legacies of the Civil War and Reconstruction as important contributors to the transformations that took place in the last three decades of the nineteenth century.
*NOTE: 1890s was called the "Mauve decade" because of William Henry Perkin's aniline eye allowed the widespread of the mauve colour (a pale shade of purple) in fashion. It was also known as the "gay ninties" under the then-current usage of the word "gay" which referred simply to merriment and frivolity, with no connotation of homosexuality as in present-day usage.
