Syntax & Diction
Much of the syntax is made up of simple sentences with the usage of commas often.
“She could hear the broken-sounding organ plainly, although they were not on the main street, but up further and probably just around the corner of the next block or so” (62).
There are many compound sentences that are conjoined by often using the word “and”.
“Do you think I would stand here and swear that swear and tell a story?” (34).
The syntax wasn’t very complex, yet many of the sentences seemed to be long winded followed by a short choppy sentences. The reading speed of the sentences flocculated greatly.
“Bernice had a blue party handkerchief, to match her blue best dress and blue kid shoes- and this she offered to Frances, although it was made of fine georgette and not, of course due to be blown on. She would not notice it” (136).
