Social Studies

The Social Studies Department offers a range of courses related to the social sciences. Our core program is focused on World and United States History, but we also offer a wide range of elective courses. Students may select classes in Child and General Psychology, Economics, Sociology, Law and Society, Criminology and Rhode Island & Woonsocket History, among others. Students looking for extra challenge or college credit may select AP classes in European History, U. S. History, or American Government.

The Social Studies faculty is very active in the school life outside of the classroom, as well. Coaches or assistant coaches for seven sports can be found among our faculty. Social studies teachers also serve as adviser/coaches for the Debate Team, Model Legislature, Mock Trial Team, School Newspaper and Project Close-Up.

Each year the Social Studies Department presents three scholarships to seniors who have excelled in the Social Studies. Students interested in these scholarships should see their guidance counselors for applications. You may visit the Social Studies Department Offices on the third floor near room 314.
